TATW: Sam from Belgium

heinä 14, 2025

Part 3 in our Summer Blog Series ”Translators Around The World”!

Hi, I’m Sam Michielsen, born and raised in Antwerp, Belgium. I’ve always been fascinated by languages, so it was written in the stars that I would end up studying Translation and Interpreting at some point.

Because of my wide range of passions, I need a lot of variety in my work. In a typical work week, you’ll find me guiding groups of people through Belgium’s major cities, teaching private Dutch and French courses to adults, and translating – occasionally interpreting – on the side. That means I might get up at 6:00 one day, and maybe only at 10:00 the following day. And my weekend might start on Monday, or any other day of the week.

I rely heavily on the Flemish/Dutch translators’ networks, not just for potential assignments, but also for valuable input when I get stuck or I need inspiration. On top of those, I love to connect with colleagues from all over the world at international conferences.

I  love playing music, singing and performing in theatres. Between work, travel and other passions, I try to squeeze in some time to play tennis or go for long hikes or runs.
